Bookshelves and Curtains and Family OH MY!

Oh?! Will you look at that...CURTAINS.
Bedroom Bay Windows

Rods went up over the weekend, curtains had to be ordered online due to lack of inventory at Bed Bath and Beyond and I'm super happy I went with the longer length.  Just looks so much nicer than having the curtains cut off 10 inches from the ground.

Yes that means I'll be dealing with dust bunnies, but I'm cool with that.  Style man, I gots to have style.

Sliding door to outside

Bookshelves for the bedroom got here on Friday so that should help round out the major purchases for now. Also, all my money is gone.

I also moved my bed 90 degrees to the right (like any of you know which direction it was facing to begin with) and it really opens up the room.  I'm gonna need some inspiration for the walls though.  Grey is grey and I want to add the color to it.

But like, in artwork, not repaint the wall.

BOOKSHELVES!

Speaking of my money being all gone.  My family came in town for Father's Day weekend!

We went whitewater rafting at the US National Whitewater Center outside of Charlotte, NC.  Got some BBQ along the way and took part in the music/beer tasting festival that was happening at the center.

It was hot, we got wet, and drunk and had a great time.

My family is pretty cool.  I mean, we haven't always been so awesome, and usually within a holiday weekend someone will lose it, (this time it was me) but that's family.  For a while we were just 5 random people learning how to live together.  But now that we're all pretty much adults with full time jobs and activities and hobbies and life, so we're definitely cool now.

Yes, my sister and I look alike.

Thankfully they were just as concerned for my lack of living room furniture as I was, so on Sunday we went shopping and found a pretty nice couch. That's my younger sister, Leah, modeling it for you in a lighter color.  I'm getting it in mocha.

Then there was dinner, a movie (Chef is an adorable feel good family movie and we all loved it...dad didn't fall asleep once) and then came back to my house to help me build my pinterest inspired cubby display bookshelf.  See next post for details!

Overall, it was a great weekend, I only got frustrated once, and I think everyone had a nice time.

I'm really lucky to have a family that's so supportive and adventurous. And although my dad never really wants anything for father's day or any major gift-giving holiday, I hope he had just as much fun as I did enjoying his company.

Because honestly, he's the best.  Love you dad.

Clean Laundry

Time to start some indoor remodel projects. First up?!  The laundry room.  Which currently looks like this:

GROSS

It's missing a few things.  Like a washer and dryer.  They are on their way to the house this weekend.  Yes, it was expensive, no I will not be buying a new set for a long time.

There once was a plastic shelf across the middle for storage, but now that's gone.  I removed it because I was told by the sales man that the units are capable of being stacked in the dimensions I gave him.  Apparently, if your dryer vent is low to the ground like mine, you can NOT stack the units.  So I removed the plastic shelf....for no good reason.  Which means now I have holes in my walls, for no good reason. Gross.

You know what else is gross?  That floor.  Yup, ripped out, concrete cleaned and stained for your viewing enjoyment. Not that you can see it now that the units are taking up both spots.

INSTALLED

Now that it's all installed I'm hoping to put up some folding doors and paint them with chalkboard paint for kitchen fun drawing time.  Probably gonna hold off on that for a while....money.

Cabidoor!

Another fun project I got started on was installing behind the door shelving for the bathrooms. I installed them both in the same night, really simple install/design.  BUT SO MUCH CUSTOMIZABLE SPACE.

I kind of love this CabiDoor.

I found it on pinterest and ordered two online from Hammacher Schlemmer.  It was a little pricey for my taste but the lack of clutter in my bathroom sink area is soooooo worth it.

I'm also planning on taking them with me if I move.

Garden update....somethings are growing, other things are taking their time.

Water it and they will grow

There are things growing in my backyard.  It's exciting.

LET'S TAKE A QUICK TOUR!

POTTED PLANT SECTION:

Here are the potted plants.  Basil and Rosemary in the first one.  Parsley is starting to grow back in the second pot.  There were a few weeks where I thought I had killed it, but resilient stands the parsley.

The smaller plant in front of the parsley is mint.  It's not doing so well, but I think it just needs a little time, and soon a bigger pot.

In this pot I had planted a BUNCH of onion bulbs.  There were extras and I didn't want to waste them.  Technically I've already planted onions, but you can never have enough onions.

Also I think these are doing better than the ones I planted in the bed. So they might be transplanted over to the beds.  WHICH WILL FREE UP THE POT FOR SOMETHING NEW YAY!  It'll probably be garlic (the ones I planted haven't sprouted yet) or chick peas or I'll move the mint over to that pot.

I can't remember what I planted in here, but the sprouts are SPROUTING LIKE WHOA.

It's either cilantro or chives.  I planted a bunch of seeds in the two smaller pots.  They are both sprouting and growing, but I can't tell which is which....YET.

RAISED BEDS:

The Sweet Sun Tomatoes seedlings that I bought are doing really well.  Already have grown a good 5 inches since I bought them.  Even saw a few flower buds getting ready to go.  I'm not sure if I need to cage them for support but I'll find out soon enough I guess.

The rest of this bed contains garlic, onions, and asparagus.....

.....speaking of asparagus......

This....I can't handle it.  Asparagus stalk!!!!

Everyone said that asparagus takes years to start cultivating and within a month I've gotten one stalk already.  I can't handle it.

I planted two varieties, green and purple.  I have only the one stalk but that's just freaking peachy with me.  I am so proud of me. :)

The garlic hasn't sprouted yet.  I think it might be because I didn't put straw over top of them like I read.   oops.

These radish sprouts were growing really close together so I spread them out a little....

.....I may have killed a few in the process.

Not sure what these sprouts are....could be brussel sprouts, could be broccoli....time will tell

I think these are purple potatoes.....?

CUCUMBERS!!!  They are doing really well.  Already had some flowers show up.  Should be getting some babies soon!

Sweet potatoes!  They are just chilling.  Nothing too crazy happening over here.

That's pretty much it as far as photos.  The pear tree hasn't died yet, fingers crossed.  And my raspberry bushes are starting to grow leaves from the main stalk!!!  I'm so freaking pumped.  I think I might buy a bunch more wildflower seeds and throw them around.  None of the flowering seeds have flowered yet, but there's definitely sprouts happening.

Japanese Maple is confused what season it is in

Damn I'm good.

Next activity is inside.  I bought a washer and dryer set this past weekend and they are being installed Saturday, but the floor below it needs some TLC.  So that's happening today or tomorrow.  Not sure what I'll do.  Most likely will just pull up the linoleum and deep clean the concrete.

OH!  I also bought curtain rods and curtains, that'll be put up once I can get my hands on a power drill again.  They will go on these windows.

And these ones too.  ALSO!  Mark has moved out...if you can't tell yet.  And I bought a roomba. More details on if it was worth it or not later.
